Onslaught, my next upcoming FPS Game, takes place in a post apocalyptic world in 2142. It is a redo, of many redoes of this game idea. This time going for a grim grimey look, that looks industrial and futuristic, thanks to the free doom hires textures called dark textures, which power it.
When looking at dark textures, I knew right away that it would be a perfect fit for a redone ons. So I took ONS and redid it tonight in a span of 10 or so hours from this afternoon to late night time.
This new version is the best version I have ever done and that says a lot. It features that grim look I wanted, plus skies that fit the part, and also has a lot from the previous versions. Even though those versions were fine, they didn’t feel 100%. They felt “off”. This doesn’t…
The gameplay in this game is frantic action on crack. Think serious sam like gameplay but more brutal. Instead of being locked into an arena like serious sam, you are free to travel from arena to arena fighting enemies. You run into hordes however, and by hordes I mean 500-1500 per level. It starts out slow. You don’t fight a lot right off the bat. Then it ramps up a lot in later levels. It is truely the first game to embrace the concept of the Slaughtermap : A kind of mapping style unique to doom custom maps, where gigantic hordes of hard enemies dominate the rooms.
The Game has a cyborg power system. You’re a cyborg and you can use these powers to help survive the cult menace. Powers such as heal, movement speed boosting, temporary invulnerability are all available to help you. You can only use a power every 30 seconds by default. By Killing 50-100 enemies however, you can reduce this 30 second timer by 5. Each level you kill that specific enemy count reduces it by another 5. It’s sort of an upgrade system that is triggered by enemy kills. Later levels make this upgrading feature easier to use, thanks to 500-1500 enemies per level.
The Game starts in a space prison. From there you go to Boston, then to Hartford, then to NYC, then to Newark, Then to Savanna GA, then to Miami. That is episode 1. Episode 1 ends with a boss : The Cult General, Henry Foroset. Episode 2 begins in Death Valley, goes from there to Las Vegas, Then from there to Minneapolis, then to Chicago, and after that you get thrown into a prison for betraying the bad guys, the CSC Cult.
Episode 3 starts in Los Angeles, then goes to San Fransisco, Then Goes to San Bernadino, then Ends up in Portland, Then 2 other cities in Washington state, and finally ends in Seattle. A boss is fought there, a giant mutant of some sort.
Episode 3 begins in Antarctica, from there goes to an undersea base of the cult and then goes to the ruins of Baltimore and Washington DC, which were nuked in the story.. There you fight the final Boss, The Cult Leader, Damian Ichabod.
