Onslaught Expansion Pack being worked on….

Onslaught news post here people. I am doing an expansion pack for it that will come later as a free download or even included in the first release on dropbox. The expansion pack features 6 new weapons (all from the onslaught design document from 1995), new one liners, a music commentary system and more.

The new weapons are 6 ones that could be done by the zdoom engine but were never done in onslaught due to time constraints. These include a spike rifle (a nailgun/shotgun hybrid), a lightning gun, a “splattering gas” launcher, a super OP auto quad shotgun called the overkill cannon and a nuclear waste weapon. These all will randomly replace existing guns with the expansion loaded, which has a feature which allows the game to load obaddon randomly generated doom 2 level sets.

The next feature is compatibility with oblige mapsets. This can run any oblige mapset theoretically, provided it’s an obaddon levelset with  full 30 map replacement mode turned on in obaddon and has no new custom textures (so armaetus texture pack has to be turned off for it to work). Obaddon is preferred for this and so is urban themed maps as well, as the game is mostly set in cities anyway.

The next new feature is the music commentary one. Bastard will run into radios inside the world that replace powerups and they will play randomly determined music clips from various bands that are mostly metal. However some are not metal but rap, country and dance, and these will make bastard get pissed. If he is not pissed and he is hearing metal, he will say nice things about what he hears, but if he gets pissed because he is hearing dance, country or rap, he will say how much the music sucks! I had to “take one for the team” to get some of these not so good non metal music clips in the game, so expect this to be really bad voiceover wise when bastard hears them!

These features are all that is in the expansion pack. You can play expansion pack mode with normal onslaught levels or randomly generated ones, it all depends how you launch it. Anyway, that is all for now.
